Some animals are just so big, that we can’t help but look at them in awe. Think about seeing elephants, whales, and giraffes in their natural habitats. It’s magical. But seeing the ocean sunfish in all its glory is perhaps unlike anything else.
These rarely seen sea dwellers aren’t as well known as some of their animal cousins, but since they’re the biggest bony fish in the world, they absolutely should be. And based on photographer Miguel Pereira’s recent encounter with the leviathan-like beast, we should all be paying attention.
Despite its intimidating size (15 feet high and 2,000 pounds), the ocean sunfish primarily feeds on jellyfish.

The sunfish is yet another reminder of the many wonders our oceans hold. Can you imagine coming across one on a fishing trip? They could swallow the boat whole…
